Welcome to my blog!
“We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.” - Winston Churchill
Here we will be exploring topics such as purpose, self-care, mindset, spirituality and much more to live a fulfilling life. Join me on the journey!
First let me introduce myself.
Let's begin at the start of my journey. I'm Nathalia Mahecha, originally from Colombia, and I've called New York home since 2004. Married to an Ecuadorian and blessed with a beautiful son born here. My life is a blend of vibrant Colombian roots and adopted Ecuadorian, and New Yorker influences.
Today I will be sharing with you some of the passions of my life. Things that I really enjoy doing.
Something that I truly love is to help people. To serve, to create an impact in somebody else’s life, does fill my heart with joy. It is really fulfilling to know that you are making a difference, even if it is in a small way.
The first time I volunteer I was in college and I was hooked for life. I am always looking for opportunities to give back. That is the reason I decided to open up a non profit in 2022. It is called Your Life at 10 and the mission is to empower the underprivileged communities and help them bring more happiness to their lives.
Doing the research for one of the workshops I teach with the non profit, I learn that there are circuits in our brain that fired up when we are generous or help others, that is why it makes us feel so good.
My second passion is learning.
I’m always learning something, taking workshops and seminars, or reading books that feed my mind and soul. Someone said, if you are not growing, you're dying. Obviously I prefer to keep growing. I like to take one or two (or more 😬) immersive workshops a year and some classes here and there.
I love to share all that I learn with people through the non profit and the coaching programs as well.
When you embrace a mindset of continuous learning, you open yourself up to new opportunities, challenges, and experiences. Whether you're acquiring new skills, exploring different subjects, or seeking personal development, learning allows you to expand your knowledge and capabilities.
Moreover, learning fosters curiosity, creativity, and innovation. It encourages you to ask questions, think critically, and explore new ideas. By staying curious and open to learning, you can adapt to change more easily, solve problems more effectively, and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving world.
One way to learn that is also very fun is to travel, and that brings me to my third and last passion.
Traveling. It allows you to step out of your comfort zone, gain new perspectives, and expand your horizons. I really enjoy visiting famous places, see beautiful landscapes, trying different foods, and learning about different cultures. I really love to travel!
One place that I went a lot in my 20’s was the south of Chile. There is a wonderful mountain there where you can go in the summer and take all kinds of workshops and seminars all related to personal development. There is a river crossing the campsite where you have to get in every day, it was mandatory, and this river is freezing, because it comes right from the snowy peaks of the Andes mountains, so we were doing cold plunges before there were a thing.
Here is where I did all my firewalks, many sweet lodges and 2 vision quests among many other workshops.
Overall, traveling is not just about visiting new places—it's about personal growth, cultural enrichment, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
Now you know what fills my heart and I truly enjoy doing.
In conclusion my love for learning, travel and service has led me to meet wonderful people, have life changing experiences and live a fulfilled life. I am truly grateful for all those blessings and I just hope it keeps getting better and better.
Actually I am sure of it because I am taking deliberate actions every day to ensure that my life continuous to be blessed and that will give me the opportunity to be a blessing to many more people.
I will continue to serve, learn and travel for as long as I live.
Thanks for reading and keep growing!
With love,
Nathalia Mahecha
